June Star, I have to confess that the parallels between the genre of the rock song and the recommendation letter had never been apparent to us before, but now that you've pointed them out my typist will never again write "diligent and thoughtful" without thinking of them. Please, though, dear, your husband shall always be known 'round here as "Mic," though his official blog identity is "The Man Formerly Known as Michael." Don't piss off Mark Twain!

Love your reading of the set list, DEB. And re. Bruce should read RW: Ha! From your fingers to dog's ears, friend!Roxie Smith Lindemannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06455529922082930949noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23938076.post-7594520082127763732009-02-02T09:23:00.000-05:002009-02-02T09:23:00.000-05:00With you all the way, Roxie. And that concluding with the new song he was selling would have been bathetic. Somehow, a little self-knowledge makes the whole thing more palatable. Though, like many out there in public life, he'd do well to read "Roxie's World." Helluva game, however! The Stillers kept us all, like Santonio, on our tippy toes!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23938076.post-9121758661765783312009-02-02T09:05:00.000-05:002009-02-02T09:05:00.000-05:00Got to agree with this one. You no doubt read the article in which he and little Steven try to make the case for a new Brill Building Bruce--all poppy and such.

I have to admit that just hearing the title of the new album made me cringe a little. Could we add "dream" to that list of words to avoid? In fact, could we put that word off limits to pretty much every pop artist working today--or at least those who trade in the soaring power ballad?

Like you, I've been struck by how generic the words have been on some of Bruce's recent work. It reminds me of the sort of thing I have to struggle with when I'm writing a graduate school application for a weak B student. (There tend to be a lot of "solid contributions" and "enthusiasm" in those letters.)*

Still, like you, I thought the old man put on a good show. I'm sure I'd have trouble clambering onto a piano these days as well.

*I know, I know, Van Morrison writes really sucky words, too, but as I tell people, if you're listening to Van for the words, you don't know what you're doing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
