It seems to me that the Obamas (Michelle especially) are occasionally a bit tone-deaf on this subject, not realizing that plenty of people can exercise and eat a healthy diet and not reach an "ideal" weight (neither did my grandmother who put away a significant amount of food each day and still stayed relatively slim; I don't think she ever realized that my other grandmother, whom she rather looked down upon for being heavy -- and whom I, for better or worse, resemble --, actually ate less than she did, and moved at least as much). Add to that the fact that there are, indeed, an awful lot of heavy people out there, and some mutterings about the "nanny state" in connection with some of Michelle Obama's initiatives, and you might have the beginnings of a populist groundswell of support for a rounder politician. But I'm not betting that it can overcome the fat (self-) hatred in the wider culture.

And I'm still voting for Obama.Contingent Cassandrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08161652083031423415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23938076.post-91908925937529359122011-09-30T19:09:53.546-04:002011-09-30T19:09:53.546-04:00I'm glad you wrote about this. They're disapproving of his weight and not the fact that audiences at the Repub debates cheered letting people without health insurance die? Seriously?undinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05589384016564587214noreply@blogger.com
