We'll add it to the lexicon, and I think it's perfect for McCain spinmeisters and the crew of yakkers on Fox.

We just noticed that Newsweek's new cover story on Palin is called "Palintology." Damn, we should have trademarked it when we had the chance! This woman may be scary as hell politically, but she's sure been a shot in the arm for the neologism biz.Roxie Smith Lindemannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06455529922082930949noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23938076.post-59567628542188475462008-09-13T14:36:00.000-04:002008-09-13T14:36:00.000-04:00Hey, though Eitan's ode is not technically a palin...Hey, though Eitan's ode is not technically a palinode, it IS a swell Palin-ode. Thanks for sharing it, Eitan--gave me a big grin! And June Star--love the Palin-drones moniker. At this point I'm beginning to wonder if that doesn't apply to ALL of those nattering on and on about Palin, detractors as well as supporters -- 'tis amazing how much attention the woman's sucking up and how much just the fact of her candidacy has disrupted the race.

Oh yeah, here's a bit of a poetry lesson. H.D. was the first poet who really got me thinking about PALINODES, which are of course retractions of something previously uttered. H.D. was fascinated with Stesichorus's poem retracting his prior assertion that the Trojan War was all Helen's fault and eventually wrote /Helen in Egypt/, her wonderful epic meditation on the alternative myth that locates Helen altogether elsewhere from Troy.

Wonderful, comrades!
--GooseMartha Nell Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10066686045532002283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23938076.post-22666009008696396092008-09-13T14:05:00.000-04:002008-09-13T14:05:00.000-04:00Actually, now that I think about it, this may be a...Actually, now that I think about it, this may be a better handle for the McCain p.r. squad or commentators on Fox.

June StarJune Starrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08952029885792174389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23938076.post-61169277495649000142008-09-13T14:02:00.000-04:002008-09-13T14:02:00.000-04:00I like another play on palin-dromes for Palin supp...I like another play on palin-dromes for Palin supporters:

Palin-drones.

June StarJune Starrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08952029885792174389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23938076.post-13312516409960924702008-09-13T13:15:00.000-04:002008-09-13T13:15:00.000-04:00Oh, I LOVE this, Eitan, though Goose (in-house poe...Oh, I LOVE this, Eitan, though Goose (in-house poetry expert) claims it isn't, technically, a palinode. Wev -- we think it's a wonderful Palin-ode.

Now, let's put on our thinking caps and come up with one by HRC. Hmmm, could be tough finding something to rhyme with "18 million cracks."
